Free agent wide receiver Kenny Britt indicated last week that he would choose a team by the end of the weekend. We're still waiting for his choice.
One team that Britt won't be choosing is the New England Patriots. Per Ron Borges of the Boston Herald, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said his team has no interest in the former Tennessee Titans first-round draft pick.
"That won’t happen," Kraft said at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla., Tuesday.
Curiously, the Patriots hosted Britt for a free agent visit earlier this offseason. It's unclear why the team's position on signing the 25-year old has changed so dramatically.
Perhaps the Patriots have decided it would be unwise to sign a player with as many legal troubles in his past as Britt. After all, the team is still dealing with the ramifications of Aaron Hernandez's alleged actions.
By most accounts, Britt is a good person whose biggest flaw is immaturity and a propensity to follow bad influences in his hometown, but it's becoming clear that most NFL teams are hesitant to commit any guaranteed money to a player who's one misstep away from a lengthy suspension.
Britt said last week that he has options when it comes to choosing a new team, but his lack of action suggests otherwise.
