The Dallas Cowboys probably expected more than two interceptions from cornerback Morris Claiborne in two seasons after they traded a first and second round pick to move up to take him in the 2012 draft.
Claiborne has yet to live up to being a top 10 pick, although he dealt with a handful of injuries last season. He missed six games and has had surgeries to repair issues with his shoulder and finger this offseason.
Despite the setbacks, Claiborne told the Dallas Morning News he expects to be ready for offseason workouts.
“I’m feeling great,” Claiborne said. “I feel like my mind is getting stronger as well as my body. Just rehabbing every day and trying to get stronger. I’ll be ready for when we start up our workouts and on to OTAs and minicamp.”
The Cowboys are in desperate need of someone like Claiborne to step up and make plays on the defensive side of the ball if they hope to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Dallas ranked dead last in total defense in 2013 and finished 8-8 for the third straight year.
