Titans' Whitehurst rented a cabin during minicamp because it was 'cheaper than a Holiday Inn'
Newly-acquired Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst took part in the team's three-day minicamp this week, but decided to segregate himself from teammates by renting a cabin in remote Whites Creek.
"I just thought for these three days... you don't have a lot of free time, I needed a place to stay and it's cheaper than a Holiday Inn," Whitehurst said via The Tennessean.
Whitehurst's segregation is strange considering he just signed a two-year, $4.5-million deal with the Titans to back up Jake Locker. He also received a $1-million signing bonus. Not bad change to hold a clipboard.
Whitehurst also revealed he's a "cabin guy" and that he felt secure in his accommodations because of the presence of a weapon.
"You do hear a few more noises out there," Whitehurst added about his cabin experience. "But there's a 12-gauge (shotgun) over the fireplace and shells next to it. So I slept pretty well. I didn't even load it. I've visualized it a few times. If I need to do something. I'm going to do it."
Whitehurst, a native of Aplharetta, GA., spent all eight of his previous NFL campaigns on the West Coast with the Chargers and Seahawks. He also claims to be an avid hunter.
