It didn't take long for a quarterback to be taken on Day 2, as the Oakland Raiders took Derek Carr with the fourth pick of the second round (36th overall). Carr figures to be the signal caller of the future in Oakland and should supplant Matt Schaub sooner rather than later.
Carr's pick wasn't the most notable quarterback selection, however, as the New England Patriots made a splash late in the second round by grabbing Jimmy Garoppolo with the 62nd overall pick. Garoppolo looks to be Tom Brady's new backup, and his arrival could mean Ryan Mallett will soon be on the move.
Former USC wide receiver Marqise Lee landed in Jacksonville with the 39th pick, and the Jaguars didn't stop there when it came to their passing attack. They gave Blake Bortles a second weapon to work with, drafting Allen Robinson from Penn State later in Day 2.
It took awhile for a running back to hear his name called in this year's draft. In fact, when the Tennessee Titans took Bishop Sankey with the 54th pick, it marked the latest ever the first running back had been taken in the draft. That choice started a run, as LSU's Jeremy Hill (to the Bengals) and Ohio State's Carlos Hyde (to the 49ers) were two of the next three picks.
Two of this year's biggest fallers came on the defensive side of the ball. Both defensive end Kony Ealy and defensive tackle Louis Nix, who were once considered top-15 picks by some, fell considerably. Ealy went 60th to the Carolina Panthers and Nix went 83rd to the Houston Texans.
The love affair with receivers continued on Friday, as 10 more flew off the board. That brings this year's total to 15 in just the first three rounds, giving fantasy football enthusiasts plenty of scenarios to ponder over the summer.
