Report: Patriots attempting to recover signing bonus from Aaron Hernandez

The New England Patriots are scheduled to go before an arbitrator in June in an attempt to recoup the signing bonus paid to former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez, NFL Network's Albert Breer reports.

Representatives for Hernandez will also be present at the hearing, according to Breer.

Hernandez was in court Wednesday to be arraigned on seven charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, stemming from the 2012 drive-by shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. The incident occurred six weeks before the Patriots signed Hernandez to a $40 million contract extension, which included a $12.5 million signing bonus.

Suffolk County prosecutors allege that Hernandez shot the two men because one of them bumped into him at a nightclub and spilled a drink on him.

Hernandez is being held without bail on first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the double-homicide case.
