Cortland Finnegan: Dolphins offense is fastest I've ever seen
The "Dolphins are the new Eagles" hype doesn't appear to be slowing down.
The team hired Bill Lazor as its new offensive coordinator this offseason, plucking him away from Chip Kelly's staff in Philadelphia. Since then, several reports have suggested the Dolphins will revamp their offense to make it an up-tempo, wide-open attack like the Eagles employ.
Another new member of the Dolphins organization, cornerback Cortland Finnegan, is certainly buying the hype.
“I’ve never seen anything this fast,” Finnegan said recently of the Dolphins offense, via the Sun Sentinel. “It’s great. It’s going to be great for us as an offense and defense. To go against one another, compete at this level and do it with this many bullets flying and people running around. So I’m enjoying it.”
Of course, it's worth noting that the St. Louis Rams cut Finnegan only two years into a five-year, $50-million deal in part because he's lost speed and ability. Maybe everything looks fast to him at this point.
There's also the fact that all offenses look good in practice against defenses that aren't allowed to tackle. Wide receivers aren't as brave racing across the middle of the field when there's the risk of a big hit.
But maybe some of this Dolphins hype is real and we truly will see a dynamic offense on the field this fall. Even an offense that's half as dynamic as the Eagles' would be a vast improvement.
