Brandin Cooks has already earned a nickname with Saints
Owner of the blazing 4.33 40-yard dash that topped all receivers at the NFL Combine, Brandin Cooks is used to turning heads.
Through two days at New Orleans Saints' minicamp, the Oregon State product is doing just that, and has already earned a nickname from a hapless defensive back.
"I called him 'lightning,'" Keenan Lewis said via Christopher Dabe of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. "A [defensive back] might be in his back pocket and the next thing you know he's 50, 60 yards down the field."
The unnamed member of the secondary was likely Lewis himself, who Dabe notes was toyed with on a reverse.
Cooks took a handoff on a reverse around the left end and raced down the sideline. With Lewis giving chase, Cooks appeared to pull up for a few strides to playfully let his pursuer near him. Then Cooks sprinted away from Lewis and to the end zone.
Cooks caught 128 balls as a junior last season, recording an FBS-high 1,730 yards on 16 touchdowns.
