Moats, a third-year player, has had a great camp and he may have himself into the lead in a battle for a starting outside linebacker spot with Kirk Morrison, BuffaloBills.com reports. "At the strong side position, Arthur Moats and Kirk Morrison are in a battle," said Bills defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt. "To be quite honest with you Arthur gets the nudge a little bit. They are going to split time in the game, but Arthur might have outperformed him a little bit at this point in training camp. So we have real competition right there and how it unfolds; the games will determine that."
Nick Barnett and Kelvin Sheppard are probably the two better IDP linebackers to own in this defense, but Moats is at least worth putting on the radar. He was a star at James Madison, and the Bills had high hopes for him, but he got moved around too many different assignments in his first two seasons. We'll see if he can beat out the veteran Morrison and thrive in Wannstedt's new defense. One unrelated bit of trivia: Moats is the player whose hit led to the end of Brett Favre's consecutive games streak.
