Levi's Stadium avoids damage following Sunday's earthquake

Despite Sunday morning's earthquake in Napa, the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers will play their scheduled game after Levi's Stadium passed an inspection to determine the damage caused by the trembler.

The 6.0 quake, which was the biggest to strike the area in 25 years, hit the region in the early hours of the morning. Yet the newly constructed stadium avoided  damage, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

"Levi's Stadium was designed to meet California seismic code requirements and seismic bracing was incorporated into the design and construction," the 49ers said in a statement. "Building engineers have walked the entire stadium and we have had no reported damage. We will continue to do so throughout the day."

Sunday's event was the second test for the state-of-the-art stadium, and the first one it passed after the turf failed to hold up during a preseason game between the 49ers and the Denver Broncos. The stadium's grounds crew were forced to tear up the turf and replace it with new sod after it was badly damaged during the game.

The new sod, however, could still use some work.
