Lions' Caldwell isn't concerned with Newton's 'Donkey Kong Suh' comment

During a presser on Wednesday afternoon, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton answered every question with a variation of the following quote:

My main focus right now is focusing on the Detroit Lions. I think I got my hands full trying to find ways to stay protected by Donkey Kong Suh and my fellow Auburn teammate, Nick Fairley.

His repeated usage of "Donkey Kong Suh," an obvious reference to Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, raised a few eyebrows around the league.

For his part, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell isn't concerned with Newton's pregame comments, and he's certainly not about to use it as some sort of extra motivation.

“I’m really not that interested in it, to be honest with you,” Caldwell told WXYT-FM radio (via The Detroit Free Press). “And for the most part, just like anything else, comments made by any others are not anything that motivates us or fuels us or anything of that nature. And in this particular case, I’d certainly just want to reiterate that.

“Last week, we had, I think, a young man said something about Calvin (Johnson) and him having weaknesses and things of that nature. We just kind of let our play play for us, and I’m not going to comment on it further.”

Caldwell, of course, was referring to New York Giants cornerback Walter Thurmond, who had the audacity to say that Calvin Johnson had some weaknesses. Johnson responded in true Megatron fashion, piling up 164 yards and two touchdowns.
