Fantasy: Antonio Gates finds fountain of youth, scores 3 TDs vs. Seahawks
Robert Hanashiro / USA TODAY Sports
Antonio Gates is old, by NFL standards, and battered, but he isn't ready to stop being a fantasy force just yet.
Gates caught three touchdown passes from Philip Rivers in the Chargers' Week 2 win. Even more impressive is that the performance came against the Super Bowl champions' vaunted defense.
Gates is the top-scoring non-quarterback in fantasy football this week, posting 27.60 points in standard leagues.
The 34-year-old was a popular bust candidate among fantasy football writers in the preseason. The younger, flashier Ladarius Green was expected to take over as the Chargers' top receiving tight end.
Green has been invisible through two games this season. and Gates still looms large.
