Cardinals' Carson Palmer hoping shoulder 'wakes up'
Any injury is frustrating, but for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer, the ailments that lie dormant are downright maddening.
Palmer was expected to be in pads Sunday against the New York Giants but was a late scratch when the injured nerve in his throwing shoulder - damaged in a Week 1 victory over the San Diego Chargers - failed to respond during pre-game warmups.
Palmer is now at the mercy of the hibernating nerve.
"They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down," Palmer said via Kent Somers of azcentral sports. "It's just one of those things you've just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There's no, 'it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days.'
"You just don't know."
Arizona improved to 2-0 behind Drew Stanton, who threw for 167 yards without a touchdown or interception in relief of Palmer.
The Cardinals' medical staff will try to shock the life back into the veteran's shoulder before Sunday's Week 3 clash against the high-flying Denver Broncos.
