Report: Eagles GM 'soured' on Nick Foles before collarbone injury
When Nick Foles took over starting quarterback duties for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, the writing was on the wall for Michael Vick. Now, it looks as though Foles could be the odd man out in Philadelphia.
Foles' performance through the first half of the season has caused some in the organization, including general manager Howie Roseman, to change their tune on the quarterback, according to Mark Eckel of NJ.com.
Foles made 10 starts for the Eagles in 2013, throwing 27 touchdown passes to two interceptions and posting a league-best quarterback rating of 119.2. In eight starts this season, he has thrown 13 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions and has a quarterback rating of 81.5.
"I think Howie is looking at quarterbacks,'' one unnamed source told Eckel. "He's kind of soured on Foles, and I don't think he's alone. The organization isn't sold that he's the guy going forward.''
NJ.com previously reported that Roseman and his scouts wanted to take former Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins over Foles in the 2012 draft, but Andy Reid, the Eagles' head coach at the time, insisted on Foles.
The Eagles' current head coach, Chip Kelly, raised some eyebrows Monday when he declined to say whether Mark Sanchez could win the starting job from Foles, who is set to earn $620,000 next season.
"Let's just say the way things were going, he wasn't going to get a contract extension, that's for sure,'' another source told Eckel before Foles' injury. "Now, if he has a big second half, that could change.''
With Foles set to miss the next 6-8 weeks with a fractured clavicle, a big second half is highly unlikely.
