Panthers' Derek Anderson to start in place of Cam Newton on Sunday vs. Buccaneers
Quarterback Derek Anderson will start in place of Cam Newton on Sunday afternoon when the Carolina Panthers face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Newton suffered two transverse process fractures in his lower back as a result of a two-car accident Tuesday. He was discharged from the hospital Wednesday morning.
In five appearances this season, Anderson has completed 40 of 57 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns. The last time the 31-year-old started more than eight games in a season was in 2010, when he was a member of the Arizona Cardinals.
