Browns' Johnny Manziel calls 1st NFL start worst game of his career
Johnny Manziel's much-anticipated first NFL start couldn't have been any worse.
The Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback went 10-of-18 for 80 yards and two interceptions in a 30-0 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at home.
Manziel knows he had an abysmal game and reflected on his performance Monday.
"First time I've ever not scored a point or been shut out," Manziel said to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Played in a lot of games, through high school and through college. Never been shut out, so it's definitely tough."
The former Heisman Trophy winner was expected to inject life into the Browns' playoff run after Brian Hoyer struggled immensely over the past month.
"I left some throws on the field I would have wanted back. ... I felt like I could do everything I needed to from the pocket yesterday. Whenever I did have the chance to break the pocket, I felt some things happened where we weren't able to capitalize on."
Cleveland selected Manziel in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, hoping that he'd develop into the franchise quarterback that the Browns have been desperately missing.
The 22-year-old seemed to be aware of the criticism mounting after his poor start and took note of it Monday.
"To me, I'm not really listening to the outside noise," Manziel said. "I know I need to play better. If I don't, then people will continue to say things like that."
