Redskins, DC Jim Haslett part ways

Jim Haslett's tenure with the Washington Redskins has come to an end.

The Redskins announced Wednesday that Haslett and the team have mutually agreed to part ways after five seasons.

"Jay (Gruden) and I mutually agreed it's time for the Redskins to have a new defensive coordinator," Haslett said in a statement. "I want to thank Dan Snyder, Bruce Allen, Coach Gruden and all the players and fellow coaches for their efforts the last five years and I wish them nothing but the best."

Haslett's departure comes off the heels of another disappointing season for the Redskins. His defensive unit finished 20th in total yards (5,712) and 29th in points allowed (438).

One potential replacement could be Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, who, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan, Gruden tried to hire last year as Washington's linebackers/assistant head coach.
