Report: Mike Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan not seeking packaged deal
With Mike Shanahan and his son, Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, both interviewing for vacant head coaching jobs, it raises the question of whether the two would ever consider working together again.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, at least three NFL teams are interested in hiring the Shanahans as a head coach-offensive coordinator pair: the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.
The Shanahans spent four seasons together in Washington, with their most successful campaign coming in 2013, when the offense finished ninth in total offense (369.7 yards per game) and fifth in rushing (135.3 yards per game).
The elder Shanahan is currently without a coaching job, while Kyle remains under contract with the Browns and cannot make a lateral move to another team without their permission.
Not everyone agrees the pair will be a package deal wherever they end up next, however. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Kyle wants to chart his own course in the league.
La Canfora doesn't entirely discount the possibility of the two reuniting at some point, but says they are not packaging themselves to interested teams.
