Dolphins give Mike Tannenbaum control of football operations

The Miami Dolphins have handed over control of football operations to former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, the team announced.

Tannenbaum was named Executive Vice President of Football Operations on Tuesday.

The Dolphins hired longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers executive Dennis Hickey to be their general manager a year ago after firing Jeff Ireland from the position, but Tannenbaum will now outrank him.

Tannenbaum joined the Dolphins as a consultant last August. He was fired by the Jets after the 2012 season. 

In his time with the Jets, Tannenbaum was responsible for drafting players including perennial All-Pros Darrelle Revis and Nick Mangold and busts Vernon Gholston and Kyle Wilson. He also orchestrated the team's trade for Tim Tebow.
