Seahawks' Jon Ryan says 'the belt' celebration was done all in fun

Sunday's victory over the Green Bay Packers was a special one for Seattle Seahawks punter/holder Jon Ryan. Not only did it come against his former team, but it gave him an opportunity to unleash a move he's been saving for years.

"Uh, when was I cut?" Ryan asked in an interview with USA TODAY Sports' Tom Pelissero after the Seahawks rallied to defeat the Packers 28-22 and secure a spot in Super Bowl XLIX.

When told he was released by the Packers in 2008, Ryan said, "Yeah, so, like, the day of."

After throwing a touchdown pass to tackle Garry Gilliam on a fake field goal late in the third quarter, Ryan celebrated by mimicking quarterback Aaron Rodgers' title belt celebration in front of the Packers' bench. It was a big hit with his younger brother, Steve.

"You did the belt?" Steve said while sitting in Jon's locker.

"I did the belt, right at (Packers coach) Mike McCarthy," Jon responded, adding that it was "nothing serious.

"It was all in fun obviously," he continued. "I have nothing but respect for Mike McCarthy. When I was in Green Bay, he was great to me. Just like Aaron Rodgers when he does it, it's all in fun. No one takes things serious."

The Ryan brothers - who hail from Saskatchewan - both played running back in high school. Jon estimated that the last touchdown pass he ever threw was as a kid playing with his brother in their backyard.

"I don't know if you call it a miracle or what it was at the end, but it happened," Steve said. "To be the spark to win an NFC Championship Game - growing up in Canada, it's beyond your wildest dreams. We dreamed of playing Grey Cups and playing for our local team, and to do that in an NFC Championship Game, was just beyond a dream."
