Gary Kubiak calls shot with Broncos 'chance of a lifetime'
The Denver Broncos introduced former quarterback and assistant coach Gary Kubiak as the team's new head coach Tuesday.
"I understand the expectations of this organization," Kubiak said, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN. "Each and every year, this team is built for one reason and one reason only and that's to win a championship."
Kubiak served as the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator this past season, and had planned to stay in Baltimore before getting a call from Broncos president John Elway, which he called "a chance of a lifetime, a game-changer."
Item No. 1 on Kubiak's to-do list will be convincing quarterback Peyton Manning to return to Denver for another season. Manning has two years remaining on his contract.
While Kubiak's West Coast brand of offense doesn't necessarily mesh with Manning's style of play, Kubiak plans to construct an offense to fit the players, saying, "we're going to do what they do best."
Regarding Manning specifically, Kubiak said, "I look forward to having a chance to work with him if we have that opportunity and learn what he does."
Kubiak compiled a 61-64 regular-season record in eight seasons as head coach of the Houston Texans.
