Report: Rams owner Stan Kroenke's Los Angeles stadium plan gaining traction
St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke's plan to build a stadium in Los Angeles is gaining support among NFL executives, according to NFL Network's Albert Breer.
Kroenke purchased a 60-acre plot of land in Inglewood, Cal. with the ostensible purpose of building a stadium for the Rams, upon approval of their potential relocation.
"It's a bold move by Stan," an unnamed source told Breer. "Whether it results in a stadium at the site billed by the parties, whether it's the Rams going in, or a different team, or two teams, that much we don't know."
The Rams have until Wednesday to inform the city of St. Louis that they intend to keep their lease agreement on a year-to-year basis, according to Breer's report. The City of Inglewood will need 8,500 signatures to command a public vote to re-zone the plot of land where Kroenke intends to build his new stadium.
There is one nuance holding the project back, according to Breer. While Kroenke's 60-acre plot has been approved to build a new stadium, the neighboring 230-acre plot hasn't been, and is owned by Stockbridge Capital Group.
With Kroenke's plan in action, expect a contentious battle between the city of St. Louis - and Missouri governor Jay Nixon - and Kroenke.
