Cowboys' Garrett believes Murray is crucial to a championship team
If the Dallas Cowboys plan to make a run at a Super Bowl in 2015, head coach Jason Garrett believes running back DeMarco Murray is a key piece of the puzzle.
Garrett refuted the notion Wednesday that Murray, a pending free agent, can be easily replaced, as reported by Chris Wesseling of NFL.com.
"I don't like that expression, 'plug another back in there,'" Garrett said. "You'll find if you look at it, running backs are important to championship teams. The runner does matter."
With receiver Dez Bryant needing to be signed as well, some feel the Cowboys could just add another runner behind their strong offensive line and let Murray walk.
While replacing Bryant may be more difficult than Murray, getting another 1,800-yard season out of a different back won't be an easy task, and Garrett knows it.
