Report: Dolphins cut Philip Wheeler with post-June 1 designation

The Miami Dolphins released linebacker Philip Wheeler with a post-June 1 designation Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
As a post-June 1 cut, Wheeler's dead money cap hit will be spread over the next two seasons.
Wheeler is the latest player from the Dolphins' high-priced class of free agents signed in 2013 to get his walking papers.
Coming off a career year with the Oakland Raiders, Wheeler got a five-year deal worth $26 million ($13 million guaranteed) from Jeff Ireland. He never lived up to his lofty salary.
Whispers out of Miami suggest Dannell Ellerbe, another linebacker the Dolphins signed in 2013, could be the next player released.
