Cortland Finnegan announces retirement
Corland Finnegan is calling it a career at the age of 31.
The former Miami Dolphins cornerback announced his retirement Wednesday on Instagram, while taking a parting shot at wide receiver Andre Johnson:
"Spent 9 years doing something I Loved and it has payed off in so many ways," he wrote. "To say I have been blessed is an understatement I am forever thankful.. I have made my share of mistakes and had moments of glory. I even got into a fight in an NFL Game ( he hits like a bish). I'm thankful for the friends I made on and off the field love yAll.. Time to move on and enjoy new people new places and new ideas.. I forgot to thank all the haters I love yAll to."
Finnegan hinted at retirement in December, telling Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald he'd be surprised if he returned for a 10th season.
"I would love to come back, but I understand the business side of it too," Finnegan said. "If you have to walk away from it and it's no more, I can't be mad. I've accomplished every individual goal I want to."
Finnegan was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft and spent his first six seasons with the organization. He played two seasons for the St. Louis Rams before signing a two-year deal with the Dolphins in March 2014.
In 128 career games, Finnegan recorded 645 tackles, seven sacks, five forced fumbles and 18 interceptions.
