Strengths

  • Excels against the run because of his massive frame and low center of gravity. Will be hard to move in the middle but also has the agility and technique to get around blocks.
  • Improved his hand technique and power in Junior season, allowing him to shed blockers better and get the first punch while pass rushing.
  • Versatility allows him to play in a 3-4 or 4-3, though he fits the mould to be a nose tackle at the next level.
  • Durable, playing all 38 games in three seasons at Texas, with ideal maturity, experience and leadership to impress coaches.

Weaknesses

  • Known as a bit of an underachiever who hasn't consistently lived up to his immense talent. Production has not equaled ability.
  • Lacks burst, relying on power as opposed to a quick first step to get by blockers. Needs to improve upon and add to his arsenal of pass-rush moves.
  • Although he routinely plays hard he is not a high-motor guy away from the play, particularly when he's not able to rush the passer.

NFL player comparison: Dan Williams

Brown is almost identical to Williams in terms of height, weight, and speed but lacks the strength the former Tennessee Volunteer had coming out of school. Both have ideal power in their legs, giving them the ability to anchor the middle and control the point of attack.

Ideal fit: Detroit Lions

The Lions have brought in Haloti Ngata, but they lack any kind of depth at defensive tackle with Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley and (likely) C.J. Mosley moving on. If the Lions switch to a 3-4 he can rotate in at nose and take over once Ngata decides to hang 'em up. If they stay in a 4-3 he can start from day one.

Draft Projection: Round 1 (mid-late round)
