Strengths

  • Goldman didn't compete at the combine, but he did impress reporters with his historical knowledge of the game.
  • Well-proportioned frame with broad shoulders and impressive upper-body strength.
  • Above-average athleticism and good lateral agility.
  • Effective bull rusher capable of pushing bigger interior linemen deep into the pocket.
  • Offers scheme versatility.
  • Able to locate the football quickly and latch onto the ball-carrier.
  • Comes off the ball low and plays with excellent knee bend and leverage.
  • Has the strength and power to dominate blockers at the point of attack.
  • Improved in each of his three seasons at Florida State, nearing doubling his tackle total from 2013 to 2014.

Weaknesses

  • As good as his bull rush is, Goldman can become overly dependent on it.
  • Has difficulty getting through gaps and lacks consistency as a pass-rusher.
  • Slow to recognize cut blocks.
  • Pad level is too high at times.
  • Struggles to disengage from opponents.

NFL player comparison: Randy Starks

Goldman is slightly taller and heavier than Starks, but both play with good leverage and are capable of causing disruption at the point of attack. Like Starks, Goldman also played basketball and competed in track.

Ideal fit: New England Patriots

Goldman could be a good fit for the Patriots, as the team had some issues stopping the run last season and is in need of a replacement for longtime starting nose tackle Vince Wilfork. Goldman isn't exactly a pass-rush threat, but that's where 2014 first-round pick Dominique Easley comes in (provided he can stay healthy).

Draft Projection: Round 1 (21-32)
