Michael Sam confident he'll be playing football in 2015, not ruling out CFL
Michael Sam was one of more than 100 players participating in Sunday's inaugural Veteran Combine, all hoping to get another chance to compete in the NFL.
The 2013 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year doesn't know what his future holds, but he's confident he'll be suiting up for a football team in 2015.
"I am very confident that I will be playing football this year somewhere," Sam said, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. "So I'll leave that at that."
Sam didn't rule out the possibility of taking his talents to the Canadian Football League.
"If that's an opportunity, then I will take it," he said.
Sam became the first openly-gay player to be drafted into the NFL when the St. Louis Rams selected him in the seventh round of last year's draft. He was released during final roster cuts and had a brief stint on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.
Sam ran unofficial 40-yard dash times of 5.10 and 5.07 (down from the 4.91 he ran at the 2014 Scouting Combine), but said he felt good about his showing.
"I did the best I can," he said, according to NFL.com's Marc Sessler. "I did just as good if not better than the other guys here, so I'm pretty confident."
"As long as I stay healthy and I still train, I think my chances of being on a team are quite high," he added. "In my own view."
