The league has unanimously approved a rule that will allow in-game medical timeouts in an effort to improve player safety, according to multiple reports.
An injury spotter, positioned upstairs, will be able to communicate directly with officials to stop the clock should it appear a player is injured and in need of further evaluation.
The concussion issue has sparked the change, with multiple incidents of woozy players remaining in games in 2014.
The new protocol will help officials use better judgment in getting players that have incurred a head injury the proper medical attention without penalizing the team.
Teams approve adding replay review for game clock at end of half, game, OT if more than 1 second is on the clock.
