Tevin Coleman

College Experience: Junior
Height: 5-11
Weight: 206 lbs.

Pro Day Results

Coleman was unable to work out at the NFL Scouting Combine due to a broken toe, and only ran a 40-yard dash while participating in positional drills at his pro day.

Event Result
40-yd Dash 4.35 sec

*40-yard dash time is unofficial, not electronically timed

Strengths

  • Explosive with the ball in his hands, Coleman decisively hits holes and uses his speed to threaten a home run on every play.
  • Despite his lack of bulk, runs hard and engages contact along the sidelines.
  • Can be a downhill, one-cut back, while using his slippery running style to make defenders miss in the open field. Scary combination in the right system.
  • Catches the ball out of the backfield well and has the blocking skills to make an immediate impact as a third-down back.

Weaknesses

  • Remains upright when running with the ball, allowing defenders to target him low.
  • Combination of violent running style and lack of bulk could be an injury concern at the NFL level.
  • Not yet a savvy runner on screens and lacks patience to set up blocks properly.

NFL player comparison: Darren McFadden

With similar explosiveness and vision as McFadden, Coleman also has a tendency to run higher than he should in the open field. Coleman will most likely be successful in a tandem backfield with a powerful runner who can keep his usage down. Like McFadden, he's dealt with foot issues, and durability is a concern.

Ideal fit: Washington Redskins

Coleman would be an ideal change-of-pace option to Alfred Morris for Jay Gruden and the Redskins. With Roy Helu gone, Coleman could step in and fill that role from Day 1. He could become an every-down option for the Redskins in the future.

Draft projection: Round 2
