Hakeem Nicks: 'I'm nowhere near finished'
Free-agent wide receiver Hakeem Nicks thinks he can still be a productive NFL player.
"I'm nowhere near finished, man, and I want to prove that to the world and everybody," the 27-year-old told Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports.
Nicks' recent production suggests otherwise. The New York Giants allowed him to hit free agency in 2014 after consecutive disappointing seasons. Nicks accepted a one-year "prove it" deal with the Indianapolis Colts and proceeded to post career lows in receptions and yards.
Nicks is at a career crossroads. A month into free agency, he remains unsigned and there are no reports of teams having interest in him.
Ultimately, whether he gets one last chance to prove his stuff could come down to whether he's willing to accept another short-term deal for cheap.
It could also come down to whether he can prove he's healthy. Nicks has battled foot and leg injuries throughout his career but claims to be in better condition today than he's been in a while.
"If you actually look at the film, you'll see I had my burst back last year. I got everything back," he said.
"Playing last year definitely made that hunger come back. Sometimes, you have to get back to that hunger sensation," he added. "It feels good to be hungry like this again, to be honest with you. Just to be hungry and have that sensation where you feel like it's time to get it now. I like that feeling."
