Winston goes No. 1

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used the first overall pick in the 2015 draft to select quarterback Jameis Winston from Florida State.

As expected. Winston, once considered a major character risk, enjoyed a tremendous draft season that saw him wow media and scouts alike at the combine and carry the momentum through his pro day and meetings with teams.

In a rare occurrence, Winston didn't shake NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's hand after hearing his name called - because he didn't attend the draft. Instead, Winston chose to remain with family and friends in Alabama.

Titans turn down trade, take Mariota

The Tennessee Titans made Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota the second overall pick.

Draft analysts were nearly unanimous in the opinion that Mariota would be the second player selected Thursday, but many predicted it would come after the Titans traded the pick.

Indeed, it was widely reported the Titans were offered a bounty for the pick, with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears making late pushes. In the end, the Titans decided the potential to select a franchise quarterback is too valuable to give up.

The top two picks in the draft could meet again soon, as the Buccaneers are scheduled to host the Titans in Week 1.

Jaguars make Fowler first defender off the board

With the top two quarterbacks off the board after the first two picks, the Jacksonville Jaguars had their choice of defenders. In the end, they opted for Florida edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr.

Fowler is the Jaguars' third top-three pick in the last three years, joining Luke Joeckel and Blake Bortles.

Jets end Williams' fall

USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams was a popular top-three pick in mock drafts, with some analysts calling him the draft's best talent.

Williams had to wait a while to hear his name called Thursday, but not too long. The New York Jets ended his slide by making him the sixth overall pick.

Williams will join a Jets defensive line that already ranks among the NFL's most fearsome. Take notice, AFC East quarterbacks.

Gurley to the Rams

Running backs have returned to the first round.

The St. Louis Rams made Georgia tailback Todd Gurley the first rusher selected in the draft's first 32 picks since 2012.

In Gurley, the Rams get an explosive and punishing rusher who some have called the best prospect since Adrian Peterson.

Gurley's final season in college was cut short by a torn ACL, but the Rams' selection makes it clear they have no concerns about his health.

Chargers trade up for Gordon

The San Diego Chargers have their running back of the future after negotiating a deal with the San Francisco 49ers to move up two spots and select Wisconsin runner Melvin Gordon.

The Chargers surrendered their 17th overall pick, as well as a fourth-rounder and a 2016 fifth-rounder to make the trade happen.

Eagles deny making push for Mariota

Despite widespread reports the Eagles offered the Titans a package including multiple first-round draft picks, defensive end Fletcher Cox, linebacker Mychal Kendricks, cornerback Brandon Boykin and perhaps even quarterback Sam Bradford for the second overall pick (ostensibly to draft Marcus Mariota), Chip Kelly says no such offer was made.

"I didn't think it was going to happen, and it didn't happen," Kelly told reporters after watching the Titans select Mariota and then choosing receiver Nelson Agholor with the Eagles' pick at 20th overall.

No trades in top 10, two in first round

For the first time since 2010, none of the first 10 picks in the draft were traded.

It wasn't for lack of trying, though. The Eagles reportedly offered a bounty of picks and players to the Titans to move up to second overall but were rebuffed.

Several teams in the top 10 reportedly explored trading down but didn't find an offer they deemed acceptable.

In the end, only two trades in the first round went down. The Chargers moved up two spots for Melvin Gordon and the Broncos moved up five spots for Shane Ray.

Collins has supplemental draft request denied

Offensive tackle prospect La'el Collins' request to withdraw from the draft and instead enter the supplemental draft has reportedly been denied.

Collins left Chicago on Wednesday to return to Louisiana and participate in an ongoing police investigation into the murder of a pregnant woman (believed to be Collins' former girlfriend).

Collins is not considered a suspect but is being sought by police for questioning. As a result, several teams have reportedly considered removing him from their draft boards pending the conclusion of the investigation.
