Chip Kelly denies Eagles offered Titans trade package including players
The Philadelphia Eagles' pursuit of the second overall pick and the chance to draft Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota never reached rumored levels, according to Eagles head coach Chip Kelly.
Kelly denied offering the Titans a package that included multiple first-round picks, defensive end Fletcher Cox, linebacker Mychal Kendricks, cornerback Brandon Boykin, guard Evan Mathis and perhaps even quarterback Sam Bradford, as was widely reported with the Titans on the clock.
"I didn't think it was going to happen, and it didn't happen," Kelly told reporters. "It was a really steep price."
Kelly insisted trade talks never progressed to the point where his offer included players.
"That's false. We never had any conversations about players," Kelly said. "(The talks) didn't get very far. The starting price for what it was wasn't where we were gonna go."
Ultimately, the Titans stayed at No. 2 and selected Mariota.
"They made the right maneuver," Kelly said. "If I was in that situation, I would have done the same thing."
The Eagles grabbed USC wide receiver Nelson Agholor at No. 20.
