Redskins' Jay Gruden: Arrival of Matt Jones won't affect Alfred Morris
Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris won't have to worry about losing his starting job to third-round pick Matt Jones this season.
Jones, at 6-foot-2 and 231 pounds, is a little bulkier than Morris and will provide Washington some insurance at the position. He rushed for 817 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games at Florida last season.
"Alfred won't be affected," Gruden said of Jones's arrival, according to ESPN's John Keim. "Alfred's still the running back here. He's had three great seasons and that won't change. But to add another guy that can come in here and pound the rock a little bit doesn't hurt anything. It'll help Alfred in that regard, taking some carries off him. For the most part Alfred will be getting the bulk of the carries and Matt will get some too, obviously."
Jones said he spoke to Morris for a while during his pre-draft visit with the Redskins.
"He gave me some pointers," Jones said. "We had a great conversation and he's a great guy."
