Former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner converted to wide receiver to increase his chances of catching on with an NFL team, but the Pittsburgh Steelers want to see what he can do at his old position.
The Steelers, who claimed Gardner off waivers after he was cut by the New England Patriots last month, have asked Gardner to take snaps at quarterback for the past two practices.
"We're just turning over the stones," head coach Mike Tomlin explained, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Gardner remains a long shot to make the Steelers' final roster, but perhaps he can edge out Landry Jones as the team's third option behind starter Ben Roethlisberger and backup Bruce Gradkowski.
