Jameis Winston not selected during 2015 MLB Draft
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston was not selected during the 2015 MLB Draft despite a promising collegiate baseball career at Florida State as an outfielder and pitcher.
Winston was picked first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft. Upon signing with the Buccaneers, the team put a clause in his contract that prohibited him from playing baseball or any other sport.
The 21-year-old captured the Heisman Trophy in 2013, winning a national championship the same year. Winston posted a 27-1 record as the Seminoles' starting quarterback.
During the 2014 baseball season, Winston recorded a 1.08 ERA with seven saves in 24 appearances. He fared far better as a relief pitcher, hitting far below the Mendoza line with a .128 batting average in 39 at-bats.
Winston was previously selected by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2012 draft out of high school, but opted not to sign with the club and accepted a scholarship to Florida State.
