Troy Aikman makes millions after selling restaurant shares
Retirement has been good to Troy Aikman. Not only is he firmly entrenched on Fox's top commentating team, but now he has padded his bank account thanks to a savvy financial decision.
Aikman told ESPN's Darren Rovell on Friday that he sold a large amount of shares he owned in a Dallas-area restaurant called Wingstop. Aikman didn't specify how many shares he had, but Rovell notes that he said the deal brought him more money than he made in the first four years of his NFL career. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback made $6 million over that span.
The Hall of Famer said the partnership was a good fit when he signed an endorsement deal in 2003.
"At the time, it was a natural fit," Aikman said . "They had a Wingstop right across from our Valley Ranch training facility, and I used to meet teammates there on Thursday night."
The company has grown to more than 750 restaurants, a big jump from the 133 they had when Aikman came on board.
Shares skyrocketed from $19 on Friday morning to $30.50 when the market closed and Aikman wasted little time cashing in.
