Dwayne Bowe rips into Chiefs' offense: 'I didn't get one shot in the end zone'
Dwayne Bowe was released by the Kansas City Chiefs in March, but the wide receiver certainly isn't lacking confidence.
Bowe signed with the Cleveland Browns a week later, bolstering an anemic wide receiving group.
During June's minicamp, Bowe elucidated about his role in the Browns' offense and didn't hesitate to rip into his former organization.
"When Josh (Gordon) was here he was the touchdown man and I'm here to fill his shoes,'' Bowe said to Mary Kay Cabot of the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "It's my job to do that in this offense and I believe I can do that.''
Bowe's 7,155 career receiving yards rank third all-time in Chiefs history. However, his final campaign with the club ended in calamitous fashion with the entire Chiefs' receiving core failing to record a touchdown. It was the first time since the NFL switched to a 16-game season that this dubious marker occurred.
The one-time Pro Bowler didn't hesitate to scrutinize the Chiefs' offense.
"I didn't get one shot in the end zone,'' Bowe said. "I think it's in Ripley's Believe it or Not. I got us down in scoring range and with our offense, it was based on running back to the tight end and my job was to play football. I never complained. I always did my job to get us down there but the chips just didn't fall my way. That's all I can control.''
Bowe last caught a touchdown pass in December 2013, against the Washington Redskins.
"Going through that just makes you a better player,'' Bowe said. "I think this organization knows what I can do and they're going to showcase it."
The 30-year-old was fiercely optimistic about his chance at reviving his once-stellar career with the Browns and delivered one more subtle parting blow to the Chiefs.
"From having none to getting my first touchdown in an environment like this, it's going to be a confidence-booster just to show that I still can do it,'' Bowe said. "It wasn't me not being able to. It was our offense not putting me in position to score. This offense definitely puts me in position to score touchdowns.
"I have a lot left, especially after not scoring any touchdowns last year. Do you think I still got it? I wouldn't be here if I didn't have it.''
