The New England Patriots and kicker Stephen Gostkowski beat Wednesday's deadline, agreeing to terms on a four-year, $17.2-million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Patriots had placed a $4.58-million franchise tag on Gostkowski in March, which he signed. The two sides had until 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday to work out a long-term deal.
Gostkowski was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft and immediately took over for Adam Vinatieri. He's been one of the league's most consistent kickers, connecting on 86.8 percent of his 280 career field-goal attempts.
