Chip Kelly isn't racist, unnamed black Eagles players say
The perception that Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is racist may be the result of his dictatorial leadership style, two black Eagles players told Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report.
"Chip is not a racist," one unnamed player told Freeman. "The notion he is isn't fair. The thing with Chip is he just doesn't see you as a person. He sees you as a commodity. The more players get that, the better off they'll be."
Former Eagles players LeSean McCoy and Brandon Boykin have both levied vague accusations of racism at Kelly since leaving the team.
"I actually like it," the anonymous player said about the way Kelly treats his players. "I know where I stand with him. You understand that he doesn't want to be challenged so don't f--king challenge him. It's pretty simple. I get it. Some guys don't."
A second black player said he doesn't believe Kelly is racist, either.
"He sets the agenda," the Eagle said. "You don't follow it, you're dead to him. That's not racial. Some guys handle it well, some guys don't."
Kelly's coaching style certainly isn't making him many friends, but it's far from unprecedented. Some of the NFL's greatest coaches have been accused of being robotic and impersonal.
