Eli Manning denies demanding NFL's richest contract
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning says rumors he's seeking the NFL's richest contract have been greatly exaggerated.
"The reports are all wrong," Manning told reporters Wednesday. "Never been said, never come out of my mouth, never said it to my agent."
Manning said he got a voicemail from his upset father about the reports.
What Manning didn't tell reporters is if his agent has made the demand in contract talks with the Giants, a more relevant detail than what he himself has stated.
Manning is due to be paid $17 million in 2015, the final season of a seven-year, $106.9-million pact he signed in 2009.
Even if Manning doesn't surpass Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers to become the NFL's highest-paid player, he's very likely to get a new deal that puts him in the same general area.
The former first overall pick threw for 4,410 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions last season despite his top receiver, Victor Cruz, going down for the season with a knee injury.
