Report: Redskins front office wants to dump RG3, ownership resisting
A war is being waged behind the scenes at Washington Redskins headquarters over the future of quarterback Robert Griffin III.
High-ranking coaches and front office personnel want to move on from Griffin, but team ownership is resisting the idea, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini report.
The Redskins have even reportedly discussed trading Griffin with several teams, but have found no takers (in part because of Griffin's sizable contract).
The former second overall draft pick is no longer being considered for the Redskins' starting job, Schefter and Russini note, and is now in danger of being released outright.
Complicating matters is the fact that Griffin cannot be released if he's injured, and at the moment he is not permitted to play as he recovers from a suspected concussion.
Additionally, were Griffin to play and suffer a significant injury, his $16.1 million salary in 2016 could become guaranteed.
