Eli Manning hopes to get extension done before start of season
Eli Manning hasn't set a firm deadline for a possible contract extension with the New York Giants, but he would like to see it get done sooner rather than later.
"I'm not a big fan of negotiations going on during the season," Manning told WFAN on Tuesday morning, per Tom Rock of Newsday. "I'm hoping if this thing is going to get done, it's going to get done very quickly. I would think both sides would want to do it that way and not have these talks continue on."
Manning is due to make $17 million in base salary in 2015, the final year of his current deal. His new contract, once completed, will presumably make him one of the NFL's highest-paid players.
While the Giants have also expressed a desire to get a deal done before the start of the season, it doesn't sound like one is imminent.
"No updates," Manning said. "There's been some talking, but my focus is still on the Cowboys. I'm not going to make that a distraction."
