Eli Manning may get his wish of reaching a long-term extension with the New York Giants before the start of the season.

There has been "significant progress" made in contract talks between Manning and the Giants, and there's confidence a deal could get done before Sunday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Manning has a base salary of $17 million for 2015, the final year of the seven-year, $106.9-million pact he signed with the Giants in 2009. Reports have suggested Manning is looking to become the NFL's highest-paid player, although he's denied those claims.

On Tuesday, Manning told WFAN that if a deal is going to get done, he'd like it done "very quickly" to avoid having negotiations carry on into the season.

The 34-year-old is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, having completed 63.1 percent of his passes for 4,410 yards with 30 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
