Pete Carroll on Kam Chancellor: 'He’s not playing'
Don't expect to see safety Kam Chancellor on the field when the Seattle Seahawks open their season against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
"He's not here right now, so he's not playing. That's that," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Wednesday, essentially eliminating any chance of Chancellor ending his holdout and suiting up.
"I am disappointed in this," Carroll added. "Everyone should be."
Wednesday marked the beginning of the Seahawks' week of preparation for their opener. With Chancellor still away from the team, as he has been all summer as he seeks a new contract, the team has little choice but to forge ahead without their Pro Bowl defender.
Chancellor told reporters that the two parties are less than $1 million away from reaching a deal.
Dion Bailey is expected to start in Chancellor's place.
Carroll said the Seahawks will run the same defensive scheme as they would with Chancellor in the lineup.
"We're not changing,'' he said.
