The New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning are on the verge of reaching a four-year, $84-million extension, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Manning is in the final year of his existing contract and is slated to be paid $17 million in base salary for the upcoming season.

It was reported that the two parties were making "significant progress" on a new contract Wednesday.

Manning had a resurgent campaign in 2014, completing 63.1 percent of his passes for 4,410 yards and 30 touchdowns.

One of the most illustrious players in Giants history, Manning commandeered the Giants to two Super Bowl victories over the New England Patriots in 2007 and 2011. Manning captured Super Bowl MVP honors in both games.

The face of the Giants franchise, Manning will likely retire spending his entire career with the organization.
