Chip Kelly has 'no issue' with DeMarco Murray wanting more touches
DeMarco Murray's comment about his lack of touches didn't go unnoticed by Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who said Monday he understands the running back's frustration.
"Yeah, everybody needs the ball more," Kelly told the 94WIP Morning Show, per CBS Philly. "I've got no issue with that (comment).
"We need to play more on offense. That's the bottom line. We're getting off the field on third and most of the time when we're off the field on third down it's our fault. We're not getting stopped. We're doing it to ourselves."
Murray carried the ball eight times for 36 yards and added two catches for 12 yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Washington Redskins. Asked afterwards if he believes he's getting the ball enough, Murray replied, "No, I'm not."
Through four games, the Eagles' running game has managed just 280 rushing yards. That puts them on pace to finish the season with 1,120 rushing yards, which would be the fewest by an NFL team since 2000.
"You gotta stay on the field on third down," Kelly said. "So if third down gets you a first down, now we can run the football. We're not converting third downs and that's the biggest problem with us offensively right now."
