Giants working with disease specialists after Fells' staph infection
The New York Giants are taking extreme precaution following the discovery of tight end Daniel Fells' staph infection.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Giants said there are "defined protocols" they must go through and that they're consulting with the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network and local infectious disease specialists.
The Giants scrubbed their locker room, meeting room, and training room as a precaution, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports 1.
Fells was placed on season-ending injured reserve Monday after spending the weekend in the hospital. The infection reportedly required multiple surgeries.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had three players diagnosed with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in 2013, one of which - kicker Lawrence Tynes - was forced to prematurely retire because of the infection. Tynes filed a $20-million lawsuit against the Bucs in April.
