Neil deGrasse Tyson says Earth's rotation helped Bengals defeat Seahawks
The Cincinnati Bengals had the universe on their side Sunday.
In a series of tweets written after the Bengals' overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks, famed astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson explained that the Earth's rotation aided in Mike Nugent's game-winning field goal, which went off the left upright and in:
Today's @Bengals winning OT field goal was likely enabled by a 1/3-in deflection to the right, caused by Earth’s Rotation.

In the N. Hemisphere, Earth’s Coriolis force deflects airborne north-south projectiles to the right. About 1/2-in per 50 yds.

The @Bengals stadium isn’t oriented exactly North-South. And the field goal was 42-yds. Yielding a 1/3-in deflection, not 1/2

That might also explain all the kicking woes NFL teams have been experiencing this season.
