Saints' Sean Payton denies interest in other jobs
Sean Payton is once again denying rumors that he'll move to another franchise.
The New Orleans Saints head coach has dealt with rumors of his interest in other jobs since leading his team to a win in Super Bowl XLIV.
He's been linked to the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins, but has consistently denied wanting to coach another team.
"You ignore half of that stuff and obviously dismiss it. Our players aren't distracted by that," Payton said, according to Katherine Terrell of The Times-Picayune. "That comes up yearly now, not just every three or four years. That came up, shoot, my second, third, fifth, ninth, pick a year."
With the Saints struggling, Payton chalked up the latest reports to a guessing game that reporters play.
"Let's go back through it," Payton said. "A year ago there was a report from Peter King ... I think that happens when you're in year 10 and you're not having success. There's this, 'Well, is there another job he'd be interested in?' My point is, if you predict that every year, at some point, someone's going to be right, whether you retire, or you finish, or you're let go. I think that's just the nature of our game right now."
Payton reiterated his commitment to the city and, despite his links to Dallas, made it clear that he sees New Orleans as his home.
"I love it here," he said. "I'm close to my children. I just built a brand-new place here. You get tired of answering the questions and yet I understand you asking, and I'll say what I said before. This is where I see myself, and I've said that now for however many years."
