Rams sign 5-time Pro Bowl receiver Wes Welker

The St. Louis Rams have signed veteran wide receiver Wes Welker, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Rams are in need of help at receiver with Stedman Bailey suspended four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Welker, 34, is coming off a down season in which he caught 49 passes for 464 yards and two touchdowns with the Denver Broncos. He's been on the shelf because of his age and possibly because of concerns about his concussion history.

Welker says he's been cleared by Seattle-based neurologist Dr. Stanley Herring and he's been ready for an opportunity since the offseason.

"I was thinking, 'OK, after Week 1, something's going to happen,'" Welker told Rapoport. "And then nothing happened and then we got down the line and eventually it's going to happen, but then it's been 10-12 weeks of going super hard. But at the same time, you can't over do it, you want to be ready in case you get the call that week."
